This app will continue to be a “work in progress” with new plants, regions, and educational content added frequently. I am currently working on the educational "Learn" section, adding additional mini-lessons.
EcoRoot is an app built around learning about the plants of Louisiana, with identification tools, a field guide and educational content that I intend to continue expanding.
But I don't want EcoRoot to become just another app that tells you:
“This is Plant X.”
Identification should be the beginning of the conversation, not the end.
I want us to ask:
Where does this plant belong?
What does it feed?
What depends on it?
How does it reproduce?
Can I grow it?
How do I propagate it?
What did people historically use it for?
What might I mistake it for?
What happens to it during winter?
What happens if it disappears?
Those questions transform a plant from an object with a name into part of a living ecosystem.
